THE PEOPLE’S GROUP RESPONSE TO THE DAILY MAIL ARTICLE
The transcript below is an email sent to Dominic King who ran the article ‘Mersey Beat?’ in today’s (Wednesday 27th July 2011) Daily Mail.
You have put a piece in the Daily Mail today as you said you would do. But this isn’t a balanced view at all. If anything, it is defending the board yet again. We asked for an article, which would raise the issues, and concerns that we have highlighted, which now represent the views of thousands of fans. However they were totally avoided.
You have touched on some fans feelings; you have then reeled off the spin from the club that we have heard time and time again (that doesn’t wash with anyone anymore) and then gave your own opinion, which backs Kenwright. Why have you avoided the real issues again? This is what we wanted asking, this is what we have broadcast. Repeating what the board have already said is absolutely pointless, we’ve seen it all before.
· If the Club is for sale and you are desperate for a billionaire etc… Tell us what you want for the Club. There can be no excuses if you really want to sell something that badly for not letting fans know. Surely letting us know what you want will open the door to a wider audience. You would be working with the fans. Or is the Club’s asking price too much? Kenwright himself has told us that interested parties tick all the boxes, so he clearly feels there has been ‘the right buyer’. Dispels your myth about him waiting for the perfect buyer. Therefore it is a money issue.
· What is Robert Earl, Jon Woods and Philip Carter’s input? Earl and Philip Greens relationship, and the BCR sports group registered to the British Virgin Islands, in particular needs some serious looking in to. After all, Earl has no intentions of investing in Everton Football Club, so why is he there?
· Tell us how you plan to increase revenue streams, and tell us why should a board that in 11 years, having twice failed to deliver a stadium, having NEVER found investment (despite the admittance of several interested parties) be allowed to continue. Anyone else who fails in their jobs like this would have been sacked or resigned by now. Convince us how you aim to take us forward. It’s not just about this season; it is about the future too.
· With regards to the interested parties, tell us who they were. Tell us why they got to the last stages and all ‘disappeared’ (Kenwright’s words, not ours). Tell us how all the money goes to Finch Farm but in the accounts £23m out of an £80m turnover, is classed as ‘other operating costs’.
· If the banks will not lend to us anymore, how do you intend to support the manager not just now, but next year and the year after? How do you intend to pay the banks back, with all our assets having already been sold?
· If you are serious about selling, and you have had no ‘luck’ so far, why not step down and put an interim board in place with the aim of selling the club.
· If 85p in every £1 goes on Finch Farm, and every penny is ‘re-invested in the club’, where is the Bellefield money? The Steven Pienaar money? The James Vaughan money? Not to mention the loan fees we received for Joseph Yobo, Yakubu and Vaughan.
Also, what has happened to the farce that is the Park End project? There has been a gaping gap in the wall all summer, despite the club offering two different excuses as to why no ‘Everton Place’ has been delivered. It is embarrassing.
Your article just portrayed us as a bunch of moaners, with no substance. That is because you avoided the issues. Who has said we want 3 £15m players per season? We believe we need a good business plan where we can maybe add a player when needed. For example, Charles N’Zogbia. Evertonians would have been delighted if we could just add him this summer. Is that asking too much? 1 player? We think not, to coin a recently used phrase. Moyes recently said himself
“Seventh might be as good as it can get for Everton with the resources and the way teams are spending now. I don’t think this football club needs hundreds of millions it just needs some fresh cash to try to start again and give us some impetus going into the new season.”
Where is the billionaire Kenwright demands in that statement? Where have we demanded a billionaire?
Your colleague Lee Clayton asked us to trust you. We gave you a chance, but after all this time it is clear you are close with Kenwright and the Everton board.

Ive always believed there is something very dodgey going out within the club.
THERE HAS BEEN SOMETHING DODGY FOR YEARS, THE LAST FULL FIRST TEAM PLAYER WE SIGNED WAS JOHNNY HEITINGA IN 2009, IT IS ABSOLUTELY SCANDALOUS FOR A CLUB OF OUR STATURE TO BE OPERATING IN THIS WAY, SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE AND FAST, WE HAVE LOTS OF EVIDENCE THAT SOMETHING ISNT RIGHT, BUT WHENEVER THE SUBJECTS ARE BROUGHT UP THEY GET DISMISSED LIKE WERE IN THE WRONG OR MAKING IT UP, ITS A DISGRACE.
